Baby Pillows are used to assist newborn and toddlers get a comfortable sleep. New research in this field is already focusing on the best combination of color and size for baby pillows. Whatever the case, just make sure that the baby pillow you select provide a natural alignment of the spine so that your baby can enjoy a good nights sleep.

A baby has a very soft head and sometimes if they are left sleeping on one position for any length of time, their head may take on an uneven shape. To stop that from happening, baby pillows can be used. Mothers should use caution when choosing the right kind of baby pillow to use for their child.
Down pillows should never be chosen when shopping for a baby pillow. This is because sometimes the baby can become more susceptible to developing allergies when exposed to feathers at so early an age.

Young children are exposed to SIDS when they lay by their sides, which often results in them turning head down on the surface. A child can easily be suffocated if they lie face down. It is for this reason that some baby pillows come with parallel supports.
Some pillows are made for cribs and are specifically used for a baby that is under one year old. A thin fluffy material is used in the pillow that makes sure that the cushion shapes itself according to the baby’s head.

If you’re willing to do a little basic sewing, you can also make your child a pillowcase for their baby sleep pillow. Measure the pillow along the outer seams. Each side of the pillowcase will be those dimensions, plus a half inch on all sides for the seams and two to four inches along the longest side to create a finished edge for the open end of the pillowcase. For example, if your child’s pillow is 10″ by 10″, each piece of cloth should be about 11″ by 13″. Before you cut the fabric, wash it to preshrink it and to remove the sizing (a kind of starch that bolt fabric is treated with).

The memory foam pillow does really mold to the shape of the baby’s head. I say this out of experience of seeing my baby sleep soundly without once bringing out the late night feed ever since she started sleeping on a memory foam pillow.
The benefits of a baby pillow don’t end there. Doctors say that a slightly elevated head position is helpful in breathing especially if the baby has a cold. They also opine that pillow support prevents cranial deformities which can occur if the baby sleeps with head to one side for a long duration.

Another leading cause of SIDS is rebreathing. Rebreathing is when the baby breathes carbon dioxide or what is more commonly known as bad air. Rebreathing occurs when instead of inhaling oxygen, the baby inhales his own exhaled carbon dioxide. When you leave the baby in his crib, the loose sheets or beddings may get over his head, causing rebreathing. What many do not know is that baby pillows may also cause rebreathing.
