Baby Pillows May Suffocate your baby to death
That baby pillows may cause harm to their child is something parents have heard before. But many simply refuse to believe that baby pillows are harmful. Thus many children are still being victimized by something that is so innocent looking as baby pillows. What parents should know is that, the main cause of fatalities under that age is SIDS or sudden infant death syndrome. Suffocation, strangulation and rebreathing in children go hand in hand with SIDS. The baby pillow plays an important role in most of these cases.
Strangulation and suffocation in children under the age of one is caused by soft bedding, baby pillow or when the baby sleeps on his stomach. One fact is that the baby pillow is as harmful as sleeping on their stomach and soft beddings. The baby pillow is one of the major causes of suffocation in younger children. This is because the baby pillow may be grasped by the baby and it may end up on his face. If the baby fails to remove the pillow from his face, he may get suffocated. In most cases, the baby suffocate when the pillow get too close to the baby.
Another leading cause of SIDS is rebreathing. Rebreathing is when the baby breathes carbon dioxide or what is more commonly known as bad air. Rebreathing happens when the baby, instead of breathing oxygen, inhales the carbon dioxide he has exhaled. Rebreathing may be caused by loose sheets or beddings getting over his head. Many do not realize that rebreathing may also be caused by baby pillow. This may occur if the baby pillow gets too close to the face of the baby and the baby re breathes the carbon dioxide he has exhaled. So even if parents secure the beddings and sheet, if the baby pillow is not removed, the baby is still not safe from rebreathing.
To reduce the risk of SIDS doctors recommend to parents not to use baby pillows until the baby is out of his crib and is already on toddler bed. This means that the baby is not ready to use pillows until he is on his toddler age. The baby do not need pillows to sleep comfortably so this is not really a problem. Babies and even adults do not need pillows to get a good and comfortable sleep according to medical sleep experts. However, if you really want to introduce your baby to pillows, do so only when he is old enough and sleeping on his toddler bed. This is because you just might introduce him to harm instead of additional comfort.

Think about what images or words you would like to put on your custom baby pillow. You can get as creative as you want. Including the name of the newborn and information about the birth, like weight, height, and birthday, is a great traditional option for a baby pillow. You could also use a favorite quotation, short poem, or scripture. A simple, yet classy, option is to put just the initials on a baby pillow in script.

The statement also recommended that the only items to put in the crib with the baby should be a firm mattress and fitted sheet. A bumper pad, if used, must be firm and snugly fitted. No baby pillow or toys or other objects should be included. To address the findings of increased flat head sydrome, the AAP recommended other preventive measures. The AAP felt the use of alternate positioning or a baby pillow were not worth risking SIDS.

If your child suffers from any of these ailments, a pillow might ease his or her symptoms.
There are a few things to look for in all baby pillows. A small and lightweight pillow is best for a young child. This is so that it can not suffocate the child or make him or her too hot. Another guideline is that the pillow should be free of decoration such as fringe or beads.

There can be a risk of the child suffocating with the use of a baby pillow, particularly when he or she is less than two years of age. If you absolutely must use a baby pillow, make sure that it is small and firm. There is a danger of your baby suffocating with a baby pillow that is too soft and contains feathers, and you run the risk of triggering an allergic episode as well.
A baby pillow that is made out of memory foam could be well worth looking into as well. Memory foam ensures that the pressure is distributed evenly around the baby’s delicate head.

Toddlers do not always think a pillow is for sleeping. Pillows can provide a sense of security more than comfort for a toddler. The soft plush feeling of a pillow makes it super cuddly and huggable. The cuddly feeling when hugging a pillow may help a toddler feel more secure when a caregiver is not around. Toddlers may lay down on a pillow or hug a pillow to them when they are sleeping.

But in the desire to keep their baby safe, many moms avoid giving their child a baby pillow for longer than is really necessary.
When a baby is old enough, he or she will be safe using a baby pillow. and also quite a bit more comfy. Most pediatricians say that an infant can start using a baby pillow starting at one year old, when he or she is more mobile. Though when to give your child a pillow is your choice, and many mothers wait several years, the truth is that giving one to your 12 month old (or older) child may really help him or her to sleep through the night.

When a child is trying to go to sleep, a baby sleep pillow can comfort them.
Doctors do not recommend using a baby sleep pillow under the age of two. When a baby is sleeping in a crib and rolls over onto the pillow, the baby may not be able to push itself up off the pillow or roll off the pillow. Suffocation can result if a baby rolls over face down onto a pillow and cannot remove themself from the pillow. A baby sleep pillow should not be used until a child is ready to sleep in a bed.

Nowadays, most pillows are tested and are made on scientific principles which not only provide safety to a child but also help them relax and prevent any future deformities.
Most pillows come in cotton and polyester blend to provide a soft and washable quality to these pillows. There are numerous baby pillows that carry a seal of the American Society of Pediatricians. It should be noticed that Physicians do not recommend a baby pillow for new born but instead prefer it to be used by babies over two months. Still, it is a good idea to consult a Pediatrician before deciding on the best time to use a pillow.
